Central Okanagan Heritage Awards - 2007

The C.O.H.S. invites nominations for its twenty-third Annual Heritage Awards. These awards are to acknowledge those who have been involved in the restoration and maintenance of heritage buildings and areas in the Central Okanagan. The deadline for nominations is February 2, 2007.

The awards will be made as part of Heritage Week at the 25th Annual General Meeting of the Heritage Society on Thursday, February 22, 2007. This year’s Heritage Week theme will be “Vernacular Heritage - Architecture Without Architects”.

The Society offers awards in six categories:

• Distinguished Community Service - Given to a person or persons in recognition of their service to the community in the heritage field.

• Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in non-residential use.

• Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in residential use.

• Continued preservation of a building - Given to a building to recognize the high quality of its exterior preservation and maintenance over the years, in keeping with its original design and structure.

• Construction of a new building compatible with its heritage surroundings.

• Restoration or preservation of a neighbourhood or area.

Printed nomination forms are available from local government offices, from most museums, from all regional library branches, and from the Society office in the Milkshed at Guisichan Park, 1060 Cameron Avenue.

Please submit nominations by February 2nd, 2007 to the COHS Office, 1060 Cameron Ave., Kelowna, BC, V1Y 8V3. Please include photographs, if possible. Nominations also may be faxed to the office at 868-0391.

Christmas at Benvoulin

When: Sunday, December 10th
Time: 2 – 4 pm
Where: Benvoulin Heritage Church, 2279 Benvoulin Road. Kelowna

What: Central Okanagan Heritage Society invites you to their “Old Fashioned Christmas” program of musical entertainment, carol singing, stories for children, and refreshments.
Admission is by donation; please bring an item for the food bank as well.

Kelowna hosts BC Regional Heritage Meeting

BC Regional Heritage Meeting: Kelowna is the host City of this years BC Regional Heritage meeting. Dates for those interested in participating are Sept 22-23. A series of workshops, a reception at the Laurel Packing House, and a tour of Heritage homes on Lawrence and Bernard are some of this years highlights.

Two workshops entitiled "Open and Shut" Making Vintage Wood Windows Work, and "True Colours: Historic Colour and the Heritage Home will be offered and are open to the public. The cost of the 2 workshops including lunch is $50.
